What is the best way to cut 12m lengths of rail track and old rail way carts into scrap for transport to scrap

Contact a few railway museums or heritage railways and see if they want the rail or the carts, or know who might.  They also have the right tools to haul it off.  Some rail is worth real money (as rail) as long as it hasn't been torch cut.    Wheels are valuable too.  Sometimes whole carts are also.  Worth some research.

A torch would be fastest.You do know a scrap dealer will not accept anything from a railroad unless you have proof that you are legally entitled to salvage rights?The railroads are very touchy about that.

SAFETY NOTE.

Make sure there are no trains running on the day you wish to cut up the track. Trains don't run so well on just their wheels!

The best way to cut rail is with an oxy acetylene torch.

Rail is very hard steel and will not cut very well with a disc cutter.

Old rail carts will be just mild steel and will cut up with a disc cutter.

A diamond metal cutting disc will be best but are very pricey.

In terms of cheapness, the torch will be by far the cheapest way, but that is also the hardest equipment to get hold of.

You will really need a professional welder for that job. Most scrap metal dealers will have that sort of equipment.

Thermic lance will do the job, but difficult to get hold of as well.
