They are often full grown cats, and litter out kittens that will be wild, and run from you, but will be at your door when you throw scraps to yard chickens you keep. They multiply, and you get a hoard of meowing hungry cats at your door, and under your feet kittens, that would scratch you of you pick them out of the way?

  1. If feral cats are breeding around your property, I would suggest calling your local humane society so they could at least spay and neuter them.  That way, even if put back into the "wild" they would no longer be able to reproduce and it would help a little with the problem.

  2. Call up the shelter and tell them about your problem.  Also put up a sign on your property telling people that if they drop the cat off on your property, it will be caught, taken to the shelter, and euthanized by shelter staff.  Keep all your own cats indoors, and make sure all your animals are up-to-date on vaccinations.

I think would be nice if you would let the shelter catch, spay/neuter and vaccinate, and release the animals back onto your property, but that is YOUR property.  How you deal with the animals is your choice.  I did read somewhere that the spayed/neutered animals will still keep their territory and force other cats out.  Not sure how much truth there is to it.

(Please don't go around shooting them though.  Shooting cats may actually be illegal in your area.  I know some people who actually shoot the extra cats hanging around their barn that people dump.)

  3. contact a feral cat rescue group. they will trap neuter and release the adults, to stop kittens, and tame the kittens and find homes for them.

they will also set up shelters for them on your property and feed them, if you let them.
