What is the best way to deal with someone who is a know-it-all, and always has to have the last word?

My office seems to be made up of several individuals who not only are never wrong, but who insist on giving you a lecture about every subject, no matter how insignificant the topic may be. You never have an actual conversation with them . . . it's just them talking and talking, and they seem to be oblivous to if you are even still in the room.

I've told them flat-out that they need to get over themselves, but they STILL keep doing it. Is that some sort of personality disorder, like narcissism? They actually seem to believe that every word they say is a life-or-death matter.

Since this is my workplace, I really can't avoid them, since I am required to be there. What is the best way of dealing with these types?

As annoying as they are, ignore.  Don't speak to them unless absolutely necessary.

I always liked this approach...

     After they've talked on and on for a few minutes, wait for a pause, then look at them suddenly and say..."I'm sorry, were you saying something?"

     Or...the mean kid approach...put your fingers in your ears and do a sing song of "La..la..la...I can't hear you."

     They'll get the idea you don't believe they're worth listening to.

Just don't bother listening to them.

Yes, telling them they need to get over it is a personality disorder - you are a control freak.  This is no better than them talking out of their behinds.  You can choose to be better than that or you can choose to remain at their level.

Read the newspaper or a book and switch off to them.

ignore them and go on. you don't need to pay attention to them. ignore them and most likely, they'll stop. take my advice and see if it works.

star agreeing with every thing they say even if you know their wrong. that will bug the h*ll out of them. they will finally get tired of you not arguing with them and leave you alone.

personal experience when i am surrounded with people like that it's true difficult to embarrass them with their usual habit of knowing all. so what i use to do when they talk i just stare at them what they are saying without responding.  I am there but i am not there.

otherwise the easiest way to respond to those people is to say the truth that they are pain in the   , , , , , , ,. but if you want to be polite just say excuse me i have things to do i must leave see you;;;;;

if it was me i would make sure i had the last word no matter what, just to bug them but that won't really fix ur problem
