What is the best way to deodorize handbags?

I recently bought a new artificial leather handbag and it smells like the plastic packaging it came in. The same problem occurs when I bring my purse around someone who is smoking. How can get rid of the smell quickly and easily?

I vote putting a used dryer sheet inside your purse overnight...just remember to use one that has already been through the dryer to avoid spotting of the oils in the sheet.

I use Lysol lemon scented disinfectant wipes on new plastic and vinyl items.

It worked for me.

Put charcoal in a mesh bag, or a cut-off section of pantyhose, or something like that.  Place the tied up mesh bag or section of tied up pantyhose with the charcoal inside, onto an old cloth, like an old washcloth, and then sit inside your handbag/purse.  Close your purse/zip.  Leave it for a week, and bam!  Your purse will smell fresh and clean.  It also works great for stagnet smelling closets.  Good luck!

I use some kleenex and put some perfum on it and stick it in your bag.

hang it in the sunshine for the day. About half way through the day, turn it wrong side out to get the inside as well.

I suggest that you sprinkle baby powder or sweet smelling talcum powder on the inside and outside then rub it clean with a dry towel.  This will neutralize the odours and not damage the leather.
