I separate my trash for recycling--paper, glass, plastic, etc. I worry about the acids in old batteries, that this will leak into the earth in the landfills or dumpsites, and impact the soil and water.

  1. I know some scout troops or schools have made battery recycling their projects-check with your local school to see if they are one of those sites that collects them. This is also true for ink cartridges, old cell phones, etc-ask around and you're likely to find a school or scout group willing to take them.

  2. car batterys go to auto stores..rechargable batterys go to most home improvement stores...regular radio/flashlite batterys sorry to say go into trash.....

  3. I am not certain about your current dead batteries- but for later buy a battery charger and some rechargable batteries- it seems expensive but once you have the charger and the batteries the convenience and money you start to save is awsome and that will take away the rotten battery acid going to the landfill

  4. You may be able to recycle batteries through this company--The Big Green Box. This is what we use where I work.

  5. many stores will accept them.  Try your local Radio Shack or electronics store.  Also, if your area has a community recycling event, they may accept them there as well.
