What is the best way to dispose of teflon pans that have been scratched? Can they be recycled or reused?

I have a few teflon pans that have small scratches on their surface so I am replacing them but I hate to just throw them into the trash since they are otherwise fine. I tried to search a green way to rid of them but am not coming up with anything. If anyone knows uses for them it would be greatly appreciated.

Metal is an easy one to recycle. But first see if a Thrift Store has an interest. There are those less fortunate that may be able to use for awhile and could buy real cheap.

Have you thought of freecycling them?  If you go to yahoo groups, you can look up "freecycle" to see if there is an online group near you (or visit www.freecycle.org).  The concept is simple, to keep useable items out of the landfill.  You join a local group (there are thousands), and then offer your item via an email post to the group.  If someone needs it, they will email you and arrange to pick it up.  You can also post wanteds.  Everything is free.  It's a great way to keep things out of the landfills and share with others in your community.

u need to bring them to the edge of a volcanically active mountain and toss it into the firey lava below... then, and ONLY them will you TRULY be rid of your precious pans...

Most teflon coated pans are made of aluminum.  So any scrapyard that handles aluminum will likely take them.

Any recycling you do is limited by that ubiquitous term: "Where facilities exist".

replace them, teflon that is scracthed is not good for pots. it is deadly if small scratch pieces of teflon is eaten.
