Proper way to do crunches? I want to tone up my abs... I eat really healthy compared to most teenagers and am average build, but overall lack in exercise. I've started jogging/running a few times a week now and am going to try to build up some stamina.

So while I'm not heavy by any means, I could lose a pound or two, but I realize that the other half is just toning the muscles... What is the proper way to do a crunch? With arms crossed or behind neck/head with elbows tucked in or? I find that almost every time (either method) my neck begin to get tired/sore, even if I concentrate on using only my abs...

Also what are some other exercises that help tone the abs besides crunches/situps? Thanks!

  1. One way i learned to do crunches without getting on the floor would be

sitting on the bed or couch and pull your knees to your chest... I've done it for a few months now and starting to see results...

  2. Crunches usually arent good for your back if you do it way too much, just remember that!

But otherwise they are REALLY effective. The proper way to do it is to have your hands crossed across your chest. And remember, keep her back FLAT on the ground and your stomach extremely tight. Little pulses are better than full on sit ups because they really crunch your tummy.
