Question:

What is the best way to do deal with a noisy upstairs neighbor?

It's almost midnight and this person or group of people who live above me are making a lot of noise...stomping! I've already banged my broom against the ceiling and that resulted in only 5 minutes of silence.

I'd just rather complain to the landlord. Is this the best way to handle it?

  1. I would tell your landlord.  If you try to do anything about your neighbor yourself, it could very well backfire.

  2. Yes

  3. Get rid of your upstairs neighbor.

    Permanently.

  4. ask if it is worse than 1 time per week

  5. Personal complain, landlord or police would do it.

  6. Just complain

  7. move

  8. I would try tactfully speaking with them first..  Go to their door or leave a note that is friendly but to the point "Hi I'm your neightbor directly below you.  I'm sure you are not aware but there seems to be loud stomping from your apt. late at night.  of course I don't want you to feel uncomfortable in your apartment but I'd appreciate it if after 11P on work nights that you consider me and try to walk more softly

Thank you so much for your time and attention and I am happy to discuss this further with you if you so desire.

    Peace.

    Your neighbor,

If they don't ease up, go to the landlord and in the meantime, consider a white noise machine and/or earplugs.

  9. I have a noisy neighbor too, just tell them politely and try it more that once, and if they still don't listen, contact your management office and get this sorted out, its kinda really annoying how they stomp.

  10. Do the right thing that makes you safe. If it feels safe to talk to the landlord about it, then you may talk to them.

Hopefully, things can get sorted out.
