I throw the volleyball out in front of me then run and jump, but what is the best way to do a perfect serve? I heard that you shouldn't throw the ball too high, but i find it a little easier because then you can get ready to hit real hard. I don't know, you tell me.

  1. honestly its different for every person and if that's what YOU feel is best for you than YOU do it that way!

  2. Well, for the jump serve, you really have to remember that timing is key.  If you like a high toss it makes it easier for you to time it, go for it.  There isn't a set in stone way for a person to jump serve and it really depends on how you like yours.  Me, I used to toss my low and go strait into my approach because it was better for my timing.  As i got better, i tossed it higher so I can add some power and topspin in it.  But before you go for the power, having good contact is the most important.  You should keep you hand cuffed as if you were holding the ball.  This will give it the power and topspin it needs to stay in the court.  The best way I know if my jump serve was good is if it sounded like a loud slap, i felt my entire hand (fingers, palm, NOT WRIST) contacted the ball, and I notice that the ball had a good velocity and drop after i crossed the net.

Good luck and Perfect Practice makes Perfect.  Note: I've been working on my jump serve for 4 years and it still isn't where I want it to be yet

  3. the best thing to do this, when the ball is coming to you and you can't jump, walk and raise the ball to a person on your side

  4. Thanks for answering my Q, it was REALLY helpful!  & Think of your jump serve like a spike, it really will help. Toss the ball up in front of you not too high, but high enough that it wont be too low when you jump up to it [been there, done that A LOT lol]. Do the footwork almost like you would do for a spike, right, left, right, jump. Or vise versa depending on if ur right or left handed. Make sure you get your timing right.

& remember practice makes perfect, so just practice, practice, practice and it will be perfect! =]
