Question:

What is the best way to extend a pond

I have a pond that has been there for approx 11 years but the fish are getting big and I would like to extend it to allow more fish and more plant life.

My idea is to connect the pond with a small channel of maybe concrete and join the liners under the concrete ... is this feasable?

I would also like to construct a bridge over the channel so you have a different perspective of the pond

Any ideas would be gratefully recieved

  1. that will depend on your existing pond if highrise pond will be easy you just create another beside it after finishing it and ready you have to destroy the wall slowly to the other side drain the old pond so fish cannot go in the other side yet.  after destroying cleaning time and put water first let water  settle halfway then drain it all the water.  When ready to use fill it up to your liking so they can go pass through.  This already been done however its work by the contractor.

For liner it is also beend done its a lot easier. for the connection between liner its been use sealant.

since your plan is a liner to a concrete depend on your pond is high rise or lowlevel if lowlevel liner pond your concrete have to be low level in can be done the channel would be a liner to the concreate.   You have to excavate a deeper one.

However its a lot easier to build everything from scratch.

transfer the fish in tubs temporarily.

  2. Well, It depends on the pond. If it is a man made pond, the thing to do would be to clear out all the fish and life, drain it, extend it using the same methods the original pond was built, whether concrete or otherwise for consistency. Then fill it, and put the fish back.

With respect to the bridge, is it a bridge for a bridges sake or will it actually go somewhere, will it cover the pond more than compliment it?
