Question:

What is the best way to find hotels in Italy.

I have never been to Italy so I borrowed a friend's book on hotels and restaurants in various cities in Italy. It seemed daunting. I would like to find affordable (meaning budget minded) but quaint and charming hotels or bed and breakfast type accommodations throughout several cities that I can know are clean, safe and yet also show me the REAL feel of each city.....not a big chain hotel atmosphere.

  1. You're best to focus on 3 and 4 star hotels.

Have a look at the pictures as you go about sorting the prices using the various filters shown on the results of the sites. Here's some examples :

  2. My very favorite easy to read books are "Great Eats Italy" and "Great Sleeps Italy" by Susan Gustafson. (They used to be called Cheap Eats and Cheap Sleeps.) I can't rave enough about these 2 books. The recommendations are outstanding with very detailed descriptions and recommendations. Check them out at the library if you don't want to buy them. Only thing is, they focus only on Rome  Florence  and Venice. Buon viaggio!

I have a small apartment in one of the best location in Rome: near the Spanish Steps.

You can just go outside and in few minutes arrive to the major attractions.

Is cheaper then a hotel room in the same area but much bigger!
