What is the best way to find out if a company is legitamit (if they are located in a different country)?

The company I am interested in working for is in Europe. However, I am trying to find out if this company is legit. I would call information if it was in my country. But I do not have access to that information for that country. Any ideas on how I can find out if this company is real/fake? or what is the best way?

What are they asking you to do?

There are variations of two scams that I know of:

1)  "Freight Forwarder".  If the "job" has anything to do with receiving merchandise and shipping it off again, it is a SCAM.  The items are purchased with stolen credit card numbers.

2)  "AR Specialist".  This is the one that I have seen the most.  The company asks you to receive checks from their customers and forward the money (via wire) to them.  The problem is:  The checks are fake and will bounce but not until after you have wired the money out.
