I bought a little cage trap from the store and I've been catching craw dads or cray fish in a canal nearby. Is there anything that they eat in perticular and what are their habits and movements? Give me some help here.

  1. best bet is their natural food source -dead fish- cut up pieces of fish to put in the trap, are use any type of meat, such as chicken necks, bacon, etc- bacon is very good also.

  2. i guess its different there but up here in the mts. we just turn over rocks in the creeks and catch them with our hands

  3. yup, here in VA we just walk the creeks and grab em. they're everywhere.  every shallow creek u find. carrying a nety would be usefull but i just grab em.

  4. Get some bacon and let it sit out till its smelling pretty bad and stick that in the trap.  Crawdads go nuts for stuff like that.  You can also go to a bait store and get some cut herring or other dead baitfish and set that in your trap.  that works too.

  5. In a shallow area you can rake them out with a lawn rake. Using a trap, I always used a slice of bacon. The fat gives off oil that draws the crayfish to the trap.

  6. Cray Fish are scavengers so they eat alot of dead things.  However they do eat shrip pellets and various vegetables.  Or you can try the crab catching style.  You take a raw chicken, tie a rope or something on it's legs and throw it in the water. Let it sit for a few minutes then pull it back up from the water you may catch a few that way.

    Good Luck
