  1. roll everything....fold your shirts, roll em, fold your pants, roll em....you can line then up next to each other and also stack them.....ITS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!! PS put your socks in your shoes, any accessories can go in your shoes.

  2. Easy.  Sort out what you want to take and then pack half of it.  It does work.

  3. Put everything that you plan to take with you on the trip on your bed. Now eliminate half of it. You do not need a lot of different outfits as it is not like you are going to be seeing the same people every day and should be worried about being 'seen in the same outfit twice'. You should give consideration to what you are doing. Going to Europe and doing a bunch of sightseeing? Don't take new shoes. Take your most comfortable pair of walking shoes. Don't take a lot of clothes if you intend on buying a lot there.Take travel samples of toothpaste, shampoo etc. as they are used up you can chuck them( put them in ziplock bags so they don't leak and you can use them to put dirty or wet clothes in. You can try what I do 'holiday underwear' is what I call it. I take my most awful old underwear ie bras, panties etc with me on the trip. Then as I use them I just chuck them. You probably want to buy some new stuff anyway so this leaves room for the new stuff. My old underwear is in garbage dumps in four continents. Basically don't over pack and yes do roll your clothes. They get less wrinkled and leave you more room.  Especially if you want to bring something home. Re: bringing stuff home. No room

in the suitcase? Mail it back to yourself the day before you

leave. Make sure when you do your customs declaration that you declare the parcel as well so you don't get tagged twice for duty. This saves you having to cart it back home again and also having custom go through your stuff.  I also do this all the time. If worse comes to worse I have actually mailed my clothes home and just brought my souvenirs through

    customs!

  4. Only a real amateur traveler will pack a suitcase with a bunch of clothes.  You can BUY clothes as you travel and when you do that you are only buying WHAT you need, WHEN you need it... and you aren't carting around anything you DON'T NEED.

Amerikans have all see the movies and they all think they have to pack 3 or 4 suitcases for a 2 week trip to a foreign country... and THEY DON'T.

I have gone for as long as a MONTH with nothing more than a small camera case and a toothbrush.  For longer trips, I have a converted fiberglass toolcase (that fits under ANY AIRLINE SEAT) modified to take the strap from a Sony Betacam professional camera and I can go for up to 6 MONTHS with that setup.

The real trick is... you pack nothing more than a change of underwear and a fresh shirt and NOTHING MORE.. then you BUY what you need as you travel... Tee shirts are not only neat souvenirs.. but YOU CAN WEAR THEM.  When you buy clothes, then go to an Oxfam or a Galerie de la Reine and BUY USED CLOTHES.. they are clean and THEY ARE CHEAP and you can just LEAVE THEM in the hotel room if you don't want to cart them with you.

My BEST ADVICE IS:  NEVER have a suitcase that weighs MORE THAN 40 POUNDS... and that is cast is concrete.  You can carry a 40 pound suitcase for MILES if you have to... anything that weighs more will have you thinking about getting a Taxi.
