  1. run

  2. The best way is to work on your technique. And to also build up muscle strength. The best muscle group to build up on is your core, because when you run your core keeps your hips straight. This will make you lose energy a lot slower.

    Arms- 90 degree angle

    Back- Straight but relaxed

Shoulders- Relaxed for the whole race

The most important thing is that when you reach your top speed, RELAX! cause the harder you try and run faster, the faster you will slow down. The key is to reach your maxiumum speed and retain it for the rest of the race

  3. If you hold your breath while your running it shaves some time off, really push off hard with your legs into the ground and pump your arms loads.

  4. combination of stamina ,physique ,training , diet and pure determination

  5. i would say practice

maybe by running a little bit longer so that u can get speed for longer and then running that like run a ladder.... a 50 a 100 a 200 a 400 a 200 a 100 a 50 then u have practiced speed for different distances and always keep practicing other wise you could lose your speed!

  6. The first thing you must do is get your 100 mts time at the moment depending on your age look at say a club like peterborough's web site for your time comparison then you begin winter training say from beginning october this should involve weight lifting for upper body strength also technical posture arm action etc ideal time at the moment with the olympics practice how u want to run in front of a mirror run tall body straight etc also you must run for the 100 mts only reps of 150 mts at 75-80% effort (reason for your time at the moment) say 6 reps /session for 100/200 mts 250mt reps still at 75-80% speed remember resistance =strength assistance=speed Speed work is gradually introduced in the spring (60mt races give u an idea how your speed work is going other notes plenty plyometrics bunny hopping hurdles then sprint from them now all these things are done within the sprint squad at an athletic club so in the end obviously winter through spring training at an athletic club would be ideal for you

  7. Some good answers here.

Don't forget 2-3 sessions with the weights per week. Fast repetition lifting with a weight say 50-60% of your maximum. Upper body strength is important too!

  8. Just do two things. Get very strong and practice short under distance sprints. The most important thing for running speed is support force at ground contact so you don't collapse at the ankle/knee at ground contact. The fastest runners have the shortest ground contact times. So, get strong to increase support force. Try isometric holds where you get in a leg press machine and lift the weight with both legs but hold with only one leg, knee slightly bent, on ball of foot. Hold as heavy a weight as possible for 10-20 seconds. Do 3-6 rep holds once or twice a week.

Run short top speed sprints to coordinate the elastic qualities of sprinting with the strength of lifting.

  9. yeah run and be quick.

to get a time try to finish the distance

  10. There are 2 energy systems involved in sprinting 100m.

The first is alactic anaerobic which is the first 5- 6 seconds. It is reaction time and requires no oxygen. Sprint work over 30-60m is the training here.

After 6 seconds it is the anaerobic system. This is the area most sprinters concentrate on as the untrained sprinter will go a lot slower in this part of the race while Olympic sprinters will slow down only a small amount - this is in fact the area in the race where the strongest athlete shows up and wins. Graphs of this effect show this very clearly. This is where speed endurance becomes the running training area with 60 - 150m distances run, although at the start of the season longer reps are run. Gym work and weights are important training elements for this part also.

A program intergrating all these elements along with stretches, sprint drills etc over a time period provides the best results.

All you need to do is get a coach and a program, ideally a group to train with. You can go to coaching courses to learn about this stuff, or some university courses are likely to have this in their courses
