What is the best way to get a smudge off a living room wall?

My wall paint is a light coffee brown color, and I have a smudge that one of my kids accidentally made...about palm size. I don't want to make the smudge worse. How do I get rid of the smudge without making worse? I am sorry, I don't know what "type" of paint it is. Thank you in advance for your help.

  1. I think the trick here is to start with gentle methods and slowly work up to harsher methods until something works. First, use a soft cloth damp with water alone and gently wipe the wall. Then try wetting a cloth with dilute vinegar. Next try a commercial cleaning spray, like 409 or Greased Lightning. Then.....well, just look around for other stuff to try, like Dawn dishwashing soap. I'd save the Brillo pads for last...

  2. Just go over it with a Magic Eraser that you can buy at the grocery store. They are wonderful and are especially good for black marks on the wall. They remove the mark without ruining the paint job. I swear by them.

  3. Is it a smudge of food, dirt or crayon?

My son colored on my walls and I used a micro-fiber cloth with a little bit of water sprayed on it and it came right off.

  4. ouch thats a tough one, looks like you're going to have to move. But with this market that may take a while.

There is one thing you can try if you want to save your house-

1.cut out a piece of dry wall the size of the smudge.

    2. hold up the piece to wall covering smudge, and trace around with pen

3.cut out smudged section of wall.

4.patch hole with dry wall piece from step 1., using quick set joint compound and tape. let dry, before sanding, priming, and painting.

    5. take smudged piece from step 3. to a paint store to color match the smudge. buy at least 300 gallons of the smudge color, behr is the best, and 200 spraycans of cheap primer, the cheap stuff works fine for a simple fix like this.

6 repaint the room to match the smudged color, primer first with spraypaint.

7use a broom or sponge to apply the paint, i use an old mop.

  5. I would you use a little bit of baking soda and some water. What you do is you put some baking soda in a bowl and add a little bit of water then take a washcloth and scrub it away.

  6. try mister clean sponge gently rub somewhere first like behind your couch to see if it will hurt the paint . If it doesn't try on your smudge.
