What is the best way to get donations ( such as house appliances)?

I am helping out a friend of mine who hads 5 children coming to his aprtment. I don't have much money to budget with. Does anyone know of some good ways to get some things donated to me through grocery stores, furniture, household applianced, matresses??? Anything at all. Thank you.

food stamps, local church, large stores throw out food everyday but is still good....ask if u can have it...look for food banks

Try a local church. There's also the local flea market.

put 'wanted ads' in shop windows, free papers, try freecycle ( but don't ask for white goods).

Try your local "freecycle" website.

They'll have free domestic items.
