it will take you 11-12 hours. take an overnight train. that way you will not even feel tired, and wake up fresh next morning in cochin.

3 different modes of transportation are there, i will prefer train or bus both are overnight journeys. There are so many sleeper coach buses which operate from Ernakulam to Bangalore and vice versa. Train also ok but it takes a little more time. Plane is too much costly when compared to train or bus.
