What is the best way to get from Bangkok to Phuket?

Question

I'm looking for the cheapest way to get from Bangkok to Phuket.

Is it cheaper to fly, take the train to a bus or a bus all the way?

What is the length of time for all of the above?

Cheapest is bus or train around 28-30 $ takes around 1 night long.

but plus a bit more for 2 hours flight. like Khun bob saids.

Fly for sure. Anything else is a total pain in the a$$ and you will waste a ton of time.

Bangkok Air is nice and usually looks the other way on overweight baggage, at least in my experience.

i just got back last week and was in phuket. The bewst way to go is fly which with air asia is 1800 baht. If like me u have no money then the bus ranges from 900 - 1200 baht. The bus is about 14-16 though, but was a good trip down as is was all abit dodgy so spent a few hours ont he back of pick up trucks etc goin through mountains which made it abit intresting

The best way to Phuket is to Fly.  You can either use one of the full service carriers like Thai Airlines or Bangkok Airways.  Also available are discount airlines like Nok Air and Air Asia.   Thai Airlines is about 2,500 one way while air asia is about 2,000 one way. Kept in mind these discoount airlines have small weight limits or baggage and excess can raise the price.  You can google the web sites of all of these airlines and see which one is best for you.  Train does go directly to Phuket you would have to take the train and then a bus.  To me it is not a good idea.  Other way is bus.  You can take a 12 hour bus ride in either a 24 or 32 passanger bus from the southern bus station depending on which class of bus, the must expensive is the 24 VIP bus at about 1,000 baht.  The buses leave in the evening and arrive in Phuket the next morning.

don't recommend train and bus... not comfortable and doesn't worth in term of time consume. low cost airline is the best way to go to Phuket... http://www.discovery-thailand.com try this website for interesting Thailand information...

when i was there i took the train. it took about 12 hours and was an overnight trip. we left in the evening then arrived in the morning.

Fly, bus or train they all work.

I flew from bangkok to Krabi and took a boat to Phuket, but you can fly directly into Phuket.

On the way home I took the bus part way and the train part way.  Do not take the train unless you can get sleeper class... because it takes FOREVER.  But if you are sleeping and its overnight, no worries,

Buses are fine, but long as well.

If you have the money, fly.
