you have 2 ways to travel from cairo to Luxor,

by flight or by train.

by flight it is about 1 hour fly, you can get a good price as much as you can book the ticket early, this will let you get it with a cheap price.

by train:

it is almost 10 hours by train, so better to have train at night from Cairo.

there r 3 options here:-

-sitting train

* first class 90 Egyptian pound about 17 u$

*second class 47 Egyptian pound about 9 u$

-sleeping train

  it cost 60 u$ with a meal served.

second class not so good , first class may be could be suitable and bit quieter than second class, sleeping train is much better.

I just recently went to Egypt and I know a few ways you can get from Cairo to Luxor. One, you can take a plane which is the fastes way, but may be more expensive than you'd like. Another, is to take a bus, which can be a very very long ride, but prbably a lot cheaper. And another way you can get there, which is probably the most popular way is by boat. You can take a luxurious cruise down the Nile, which is not that expensive, and which takes about an entire day.

I took a plane, whihc only takes about an hour and a half.

Have a good time in Egypt, be sure to go to the Valley of the Kings, to see King Tut Ankh Amun. Also, be sure to visit Karnak Temple, and Luxor Temple.

The best way is to fly. The flight is one hour only. Second best is the sleep wagon in the train. This trip is done during the night and you arrive in the early morning.

At the moment there are no cruises from Cairo to Luxor. The cruises available are from Luxor to Aswan or vice versa. Also there is another cruise south of Aswan in lake Nasser.

You need to define what you mean by "best" - best for you may be worst for someone else.

You could go by bus,  or possibly a Taxi,   or by airplane , but for me personnally "best" would be on the river on a Nile Cruiser.
