  1. Traveling in the evening to your  hotel when you have just arrived and may be tired or jet lagged it might be worth taking an airport shuttle bus to your destination.

There are many such shuttle companies that will take you from the airport directly to your hotel for considerably less than the cost of a Taxi (which can be in excess of 60 euros).

In case you're unfamilar with these services, they are essentially a pooled taxi service which you can reserve in advance. Because they will be carrying several people they take a bit longer than a taxi to get you to your destination but rarely longer than the trip would take using public transportation. The price is more than traveling by public transport but there is no danger of getting lost (or worse).

The RER B line is generally safe but it does pass thru some undesirable neighborhoods and in the evening there have been a (very) few incidents.

Here are some websites for shuttle lines but you can do a web search and find dozens:

  2. If you're traveling light, I would take the RER B to the Gare du Nord station, and then either walk to the rue de Clignancourt or take métro line 4 (Direction: Porte de Clignancourt) two stops to Marcadet-Poissonniers. From there, you just walk up the rue Labat about a block to the rue de Clignancourt. (See link.) If you're not traveling light: spring for a taxi, but just make sure it's a "legitimate" (read: legal) taxi as opposed to someone doing it illegally and off the books.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that with the public transportation option, you'll be arriving on the boulevard Barbès, also clearly visible in that link.
