Typically you serve 1 day per week for 18 months (which can be increased to 24.) Where I live (I don’t know if this is uniform throughout the entire country) you get paid $40 per day. It costs about $20 per day to park at the court house.

1) That represents a HUGE loss of income for me, probably more than those of you posting “Do you civic duty’ make in 1-2 years.

2) I haven’t taken more than 10 days vacation in the last decade but now Uncle Sam expects me to work for free for him for 75 – 100 days? Ridiculous.

3) Anybody that has any sort of career going for them, especially in a competitive company, knows that not being in the office 1 day per week for 1 ½ - 2 years basically will grind their career advancement to a screeching halt. And while it isn’t ‘legal’, the company is going to be looking for a way to get rid of you.

4) Try finding a new job when you tell a prospective employer “By the way, I can’t work Thursdays until 2010.”

  1. Take a hard-line approach to what ever the trial is about.  If it is about tax fraud, for example, tell them during your interview that you pay your taxes every year and feel that the penalties for tax criminals should be as stiff as those for armed robbery, rape, and murder.  If you have that hard of a stance the defense will not want you on the jury.

  2. TELL YOU BELIFES PROHIBIT YOU FROM JUDGEING OTHER PEOPLE NO MATTER WHAT YOU WOULD HAVE FIND THE PERSON  NOT GUILTY NOMATTER WHAT WAS PERSENTED TO THE JURY MY FRIEND DAN DID THIS AND HE WAS GONE IN 5 SECONDS COURTS WANT UN BAIS PEOPLE

  3. Whether you are chosen or not to actually serve on the jury will depend on the suitablity of the answers you give to the questions they ask when you go for the interview.

so , it stands to reason.if you don't  want to serve , give unacceptable  answers...

  4. Just tell them you posted this question.

First clue:  You don't serve for a solid 18 months...in fact, if chosen, you only serve a few days each month (the exact time depends on your jurisdiction).  It may be only one day per month.  It's not as if the court system isn't aware that we all have regular lives and jobs to deal with.

I say quit your whining and step up to be a proper upstanding citizen of this country or get the h**l out!!

  5. I would be willing to bet you are the first to say that this is the "greatest country in the world"  but you don't want to do your part to keep it that way.

Take a few days out of a long life and serve your community.  Or not.  Who needs slackards on grand juries.  not me.  That is serious stuff.

tell them you refuse to consider anything that has a death penalty attached to it; or that has best interest of community at bottom of it; and they will let you go.
