my computer got antivirus 2008 which is a adware virus i would like to know how to get rid of it?

It is a rogue anti-spyware program similar to the well known XP Antivirus rogue application.

Download and install SmitfraudFix

After you download and install restart your PC in safe mode with networking

Double-click on the SmitfraudFix.exe icon then follow the screen instructions. Option #2 should be selected in this case.

When you are prompted with “Do you want to clean the registry ?”, simply answer “Y”.

While in safe mode you should download, install and run a full scan with Malwarebytes

And for protecting your personal info and files, use Ad-Aware 2008 Free Edition:

All of them are free, as powerful as paid programs, like Norton and McAfee, and don't use up as many resources.

Just boot into Safe Mode (Press F8 when turning on the computer) and run full scans.

The best way is to find all malicious files and delete them.  Also disabling registry keys associated with malware is also a good idea.  These tools work well when I am dealing with nasty infections.

HijackThis - Use hijackthis to identify if a file is malicious (google entries in the log)

Autoruns - use autoruns to prevent a file or application from loading at startup.  Use the binoculars icon to search for the files identified with HijackThis

Sometimes the files will not delete and you need to use Avenger to remove them.  Avenger deletes files at startup before anything is loaded by the operating system. A very nifty but dangerous tool.
