What is the best way to get the smell of smoke out of a carpet,drop ceiling, and walls?

Part of the wall is panel.

Besides paint on the walls what can I wipe them down with or spray on them?

Actually it is pretty easy with the right stuff. Many professional fire restoration companies use the following:

Air Neutralizer: for wiping down all surfaces and used to clean carpet

Fire D: dry fog that penetrates cracks, crevices and through porous materials.

Note: These products are highly concentrated do not use more than what is directed.

You probably will not need to paint anything if you clean all of the surfaces thoroughly

Burn the house down & rebuild. Seriously you'll never get all of the smell out.

I scrub my carpets then rinse them in fabric softener. For walls,wash them with Murphy's oil soap.No need to rinse or if you want, put a little fabric softener in the rinse water too.

You will not get the smell of smoke completely out of carpet without 1st shampooing or steam cleaning and then having an ozone treatment .  The walls and ceilings will have to be washed and then painted.  My sister had this problem in her condo and after alot of researching this was what was recommended and it did work.  The people that do the ozone treatments can be found in your yellow pages or anyone that does smoke damage cleaning.  The ozone treatments were surprisingly reasonable.  I am not sure about the paneling, I would think a good cleaning with non sudsing ammonia and water then rinse with vinegar and water would do the trick.
