So, I have absolutely no idea how to travel around SF and am going to have a new experience. So I'm going to get off BART at the Powell street (that's the stop with the multi story mall, right?) From there I want to get to Japan Town and the Wharf. What's the best order to go to them in, what possible ways are there to get there, and roughly how much would it cost? Thank you.

  1. Take a bus is a good choice. If it's your first time to visit San Francisco, you'd better also take a city map around you. http://www.tours4fun.com/san-francisco-t... It must just cost you several dollars.

  2. To get to the wharf from Powell Street, just hop on the cable car.  It'll take you right there.

To get to Japantown, walk up two blocks to Geary and catch the Geary bus going west.  You can get off at Post or Fillmore; just tell the driver to let you know when you get to Japantown.

The bus is $1.50 each way.  The cable car is $5.00 each way.

If you don't want to pay the $5.00 cable car fare, you can get off at the Embarcadero BART station, walk over to the Embarcadero and catch a street car to the wharf.

  3. If by "multi story mall" you mean the Westfield San Francisco Center (where the top floors are all Nordstrom's), it's on Market Street near Powell.

Try this website for getting from there to Japantown and Fisherman's Wharf:  http://tripplanner.transit.511.org.  There you will find information on public transportation and the associated rates.  There's also a Trip Planner where you can put in the address of your starting place (such as Market & Powell Streets), and of your ending place (such as Japantown) and it will tell you everything you need to know about using public transport to get there.

    Hope this helps!
