Trying to plan Los Angeles to San Francisco trip. Need to get a group of 8 to 10 from Amtrak in Oakland to pier 27 in the city at about 9:00 pm. Either BART or the ferry will do. We are then sailing the SSV Robert Seamans back to Los Angeles ...... ;~)

  1. Amtrak-connecting buses can take you to either the ferry building or to pier 39.

  2. Take the BART.

  3. The Train??

  4. Amtrak offers coach service to San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf and Ferry Building if you book your ticket there instead of Oakland.  Otherwise, BART is your best bet.

  5. Uncelneal gives one option, that is to take Bart.  This could get you to the Embarcadero.  According to information from www.amtrak.com and www.bart.gov it is about a 3/4 mile walk from the Amtrak station to the nearest Bart station.  You would also have to walk from the Embarcadero to Pier 27.  You would have to pay extra for the Bart fare.  However, you can use the Amtrak Thruway bus service.  When you buy your tickets, just purchase tickets from LA to San Francisco (either the Fisherman's Wharf station or the Ferry Building terminals).  The buses meet the train at the Emeryville station (just north of Oakland) and transport you right across the bay.  Pier 27 looks like it is just a short walk from either destination.  You pay just one price that way, no extra fare.  If you have extra time, I would suggest getting off at the Fisherman's Wharf station and exploring that before you come back.  Hope this helps you out.
