What is the best way to give a cat a tablet?

my cat always spits it back on and its like one big drama trying to get her to keep it down. even holding her mouth closed for a few seconds doesn work cos she just waits and then spits...any ideas?

i bought a device from foster & smith made for giving pills. looks like a syringe you place the pill inside put in kittys mouth and push the plunger to release pill. works every time i love it!!!

Our Cat was having tabs this week...what we done was wrap him in a towel so he cant scatch...then hold hes neck back pull his mouth open drop the tab in and  tickled hes throat.

They hate having tablets don't they?? My vet showed me how to do it and it does work. Gently open her mouth, and put the tablet right at the back of her mouth. She won't like it, but it definitely worked with my kitten!

There are pill pockets that you can buy from the vet, or at the pet store. You can very easily seal the pill in the pocket, and usually they take it with no problem. You can also give these as treets, so they think that is what they are getting. They are kinda pricy though, so I wouldn't make a habit of giving as treets, unless you are going to give a pill. Check with the vet before crushing the pill to see if that is ok.

put the tablet at the end of her tongue , and then close her mouth and keep holding it and make her face the cieling untill she swallows it .

when cats reject a tablet they use their tongue to move it out

so when u put it at the end of their tongue it will slip into the throat instead of going out.

The best way to administer a tablet to a cat is to hold the critter in your left arm firmly close to your body making sure that his paws are held tightly by your arm too.

Now place the tablet  in your right hand and at the same time prise the cats jaws apart.... He's not going to like this one bit however if you are quick you can force the tablet as far to the back of the cats throat as possible.

When the tablet is in, shut the jaws firmly and point the cats face upwards (making shaw the jaws are held shut). Rub the cats neck up and down a few times, this will cause a swallowing reflex to occur. Wait a few seconds and bingo, you have a medicated cat.

Probably best to give him a nice treat after that..... His greed will soon make him forget what you just did to him...

DO NOT CRUSH IT IN FOOD!  The potency of the drug may be affected.  Some pills don't work the same way when they are crushed up, it could be harmful.

Cradle the cat in your arms, so his belly is facing upward.

If you're right handed, put the pill in your right hand, between your thumb and forefinger.

Use your elbow to hold the cat down as you grab it's face by the jaw hinges.  His mouth should open.  QUICKLY, pop that pill down the cat's throat.  You have to be QUICK!!!   The cat won't know what happened.

When the cat licks his nose, you'll know he has swallowed the pill.

NOW, I've done this with my Grandma's cat (who hates me, hisses at me, and won't let me pet him).  I also do this with my own four cats.  It always works.  The key though is to be quick, and sort of scoop the cat up and do it in a few easy steps.  Don't make a big deal of it.  Just grab the cat when it's sleeping, open the mouth, pop in the pill.

Hold cat between your legs so it can't escape, tilt cat's head back as far as you can (be nice!) & slip tablet in mouth as far back towards throat as possible.

Hold mouth shut & gently rub under neck to encourage cat to swallow.
