To do it cheap, use the Underground to get to Victoria then take National Rail from there, as Denmark Hill Station is within London & it's Travel Zones you should be able to use an Oyster card.  If you don't have an Oyster card you can get one at the Underground Station in Heathrow - it will cost £3 initially & you should be able to top up as much or as little as you like.

A single fare from Heathrow to Victoria will cost £4 (£3.50 with an Oyster), you can also get a travelcard for that sum & a single train fare from Victoria to Denmark Hill STation should cost £2.30 off peak.
