I am planning my next trip for November of this year. My hubby and I are planning to go to Egypt and then go to Jordan. Have you visited both countries during the same vacation time? How did you do it? I am thinking of landing in Cairo and see everything in Egypt and then leave Jordan for the last days of our trip- what would you suggest based on your experience?

There is a perfect website that will tell you everything you need to know about traveling from Egypt to Jordan.  log on to:

www.jordanjubilee.com.....and their site Out of Egypt.

I have traveled in both Jordan (always reached from Israel) and Egypt (30 trips since 1980, alsways with direct flights from New York).  Both countries are fascinating, friendly, and will not disappoint.  The trip through the gorge to the 'rose-red' city of Petra, on horseback, will be the most memorable part of your Jordan experience...though it is a long car (or bus) ride -about five hours- from Amman.  Jerash is also a marvelous archeological site...and you might want to consider doing both Jerash and Petra as an overnight.

Amman (a bit like Tel Aviv or Haifa) is lovely, but will be a pale shadow of Cairo ( which is like living in the heart of the world) or Alexandria (the beautiful "Pearl of the Mediterranean). And while the Jordanians are a friendly people, they are not quite as warm, and inviting and hospitable as the Egyptians.  And the shopping in Egypt (especially at the Khan el Khalli bazaar in Cairo...or the native souk in Aswan) is MUCH more fun.

The weather, in both places, in November  will give you long days of sunshine and heat, but with nights that can get a bit chilly.  Bring light wraps or sweaters. And comfortable walking shoes are a must.

There is so much to see, just in Cairo, that even after 30 trips, we still find something new to enjoy every time.  It is an emminently safe destination.  Just set your inner clock to 'Egyptian' time, relax and enjoy.  Egyptians cannot understand the Western habit of having to RUSH everywhere, and expect instantaneous service....That is simply NOT the Egyptian way.

Accomodations can range from Ultra Delux five star, Western style hotels, to delightfully 'native' 3-star gems, with friendly staffs, clean and comfortable accomodations, and well prepared food.

Not sure how much time you plan to spend in Egypt, but if you have the time, a NILE Cruise is a must.  It will give you a chance to, both relax, and to see, in an unhurried manner, all of the archeological sights between Luxor (in Middle Egypt) to Aswan, in the far south.  Again, there are hundreds of Cruise ships to choose from....some are floating hotels (our favorites are the Sonesta ships, the "Sun Goddess", the "Moon Goddess" and the newest.  "Sonesta St. George". ...heaven on water!  If you DON'T enjoy your stay in both Egypt and Jordan, it will be your own fault. LOL

Post again if you need more specifics.

    Edit:

Of course it can be done in 15 days...but my choice would be to spend all that time in Egypt....and save Jordan for another trip...possibly combined with Israel.  Or you may want to do a return trip to the Red Sea Coast of Egypt and THEN do the easy crossing  into Jordan.

There is just SO MUCH to see in Egypt, that ten days will just leave you wishing for more.  If you decide to do BOTH this time, try for a 3-night or 4-night Nile Cruise....that will include tours in  Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Aswan.  It will give you the flavor of the most important sites of Egypt....and still allow for 3 or 4 days to do Cairo.

  5. What you can do is take a bus from cairo to St. catherines. Then we hired a car to take us from St. Catherines to Nuwiaba an there is a Farry that runs from there to Aqaba, jordan. Thats the way we did it.
