What is the best way to help someone own up to having a drug problem?

My husband has really bad back problems he was put on drugs at the DR. now the drugs are more of a problem than the back. He wont admit he has a problem but he does and it is bad. I am worried that he may take so much of this stuff that it will kill him help.

First of all, you have to be very brave.  You can not say or do anything unless you are prepared to back it up with a consequences. I mean things like "him moving out of the house", yes, make him chose you or   his other women "his favorite pills".  If that don't make him want to get help to change.  Don't threaten him with divorce.  Run to the courthouse file for  divorce and make him pay for it. At, this point he has made his decision.  I am 53 years old.  I have been married to the same guy for 33 years.  And, yes I still love him.  If it were my husband. I would make an appointment with his doctor who is listed on his favorite pills.   When you tell your husband about the appointment be prepared to remind him daily and tell him you have to pay for a missed appointments. ( that will work) I would take my husband by the hand to the appointment like I did my boys when they where little. Once we were there I would tell the doctor and my husband exactly what you asked us.  I would not leave the doctor's office until a plan was in place to help my husband. Even if it meant acting a fool in the doctor's office.

As you can see I am a mother bear when it comes to me and mine.

I would say just hide the pills from him(in your purse maby) and only give them to him when neccessary.

And, what kind of drugs are they(I hope its not any kind of opiate)

A few Ideas:

The best thing is to record them on video or by voice recorder so they can see how they are acting and show them when they are sober with a clear mind and are able to see themselves from the outside perspective. Or you can look up symptoms for his particular addiction on line and show him how much he closely matches the them. Just keep a close eye on him and tell him if he doesn't have a problem he wont mind you keeping the pill bottle and he has to come to you to get them if he refuses that it's obvious he has a problem.

Get a pill box and put in whatever amount he is supposed to take that day, and give it to him. Keep all the pills hidden somewhere and give it to him in moderation.
