  1. Probably watch TV/ films.

You'll pick up a lot (although you'll pick up a lot of bad examples as well)

You'll find that the Americans are not the best english speakers- I think the English would come out on top in that one.

  2. I'm an American, but when I want to improve my foreign language skills, I watch lots of movies, read lots of books, listen to the radio, and go out of my way to find people who speak the language I'm working on.  Most foreign language countries have Americans who live in them, or who come to visit.

Also, I swear by www.sharedtalk.com. It's a great place where you can meet native speakers of English who would like to help you improve your English in exchange for your help for them learning your language. Sharedtalk is absolutely free.

  3. speak English as often as possible

there are many people who believe they can improve their speaking without saying anything

hope you are not one of them

  4. Living in an english speaking country. When you are surrounded by people who only speak english you pick it up very quickly. Living in a foreign country isn't easy, and you can't be tempted to hang around with people who only speak your language....if you do this you'll never learn english no matter how long you are in an english speaking country.

An exchange student who studies in Great Britain, USA, Australia...etc, will learn rapidly, learn slang words and other cultures. PLUS studying abroad costs less than a lifetime of english classes.

  5. 1) you mean non-English countries

    2) there is no "formula" which applies for everybody, because, every person has their unique interest (in what language skill they like to learn, speaking, reading comprehension, writing, grammar,...) , motivation (they learn it for finding a job, for communicating with the English speaking people, for being able to read their favourite novels,...), level of prior knowledge (intermediate, medium,proficientt,..), and the time and energy they can spend daily for it.

3)A good teacher "prescribes" the most suitable techniques for any language learner based on the above factors.
