I am taking the LSAT in Oct. I need to improve my score. Right now I am scoring mid 140s; I'd like to increase that but, I don't want to take a class can't afford it.

So, what's the best study materials and for how many months should I study?

  1. the above guys advise is good, but you probably wont want to touch the Kaplan 180, atleast not yet.  Get the LG and LR Bibles and The next 10 actual...  Those 3 books are key.

Also apply for a fee waiver through lsac.  www.lsac.com

If you are eligible they will send you a copy of SuperPrep, which contains 3 Test with explanations, and a fee waiver to take the LSAT.  Saves a chunck of change right there.

Buy the Powerscore books, dont write in them but on a seperate peice of paper, and resell them on ebay explaining they are not written in.  Write in the Next 10 actual.... however.

  2. Start studying now for the test. You can't cram for this type of exam, so you will want to spread you studying out over several months, a couple of hours each day.

If a class is out fo the picture, then you are going to have to go the self-study route. These were the three best books I used:

    1. Powerscore Logic Games Bible

    2. Powerscore Logical Reasoning Bible

    3. Kaplan LSAT 180

The two Powerscore books are expensive but more than worth it, and they will help you a lot given where you are scoring right now.

You will also need actual tests to practice with, so get them from Law Services (the people who make the test and who are behind LSAT.com). These are the three cheapest ones, each is $30:

    4. The Next 10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests

    5. 10 More Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests

    6. 10 Actual, Official LSAT PrepTests

If you work through the first three books, you would be in pretty good shape in terms of strategies, and then do a ton of the tests from the second group of books. Try to take at least one test a week if you can.

    Good luck--you can improve!
