  1. oh, well, i was going to say read the dictionary, but nobody seems to like that idea...

but really, because sometimes it can be very interesting, and if u like a new word or something, it sticks in ur head so if u use it later it sounds natural like something you would say.

why do u want to know, though?

are u in like a spelling bee or something? lol. :]

  2. go online. there are a lot of vocabulary enrichment that online is catering nowadays. try different stuff like quizzes, fun games and puzzles concerning vocabulary.

  3. do puzzles and stuff (Y)

    x

  4. First, you shouldn't just start reading the dictionary lol. Also, do you like to read? if you do, and you come across a word you don't know in anything when it comes to books or etc... then you should write it down and look it up later.

  5. Try working the New York Time's crossword puzzles.

(The puzzles that are published earlier in the week, ie. Monday and Tuesday are easier.)

  6. Well, what type of vocabulary are you talking about?

Everyone has three distinct vocabularies. First is the comprehension vocabulary, specifically words you will understand, but may not necessarily use. Next is the written vocabulary, which contains the second largest amount of words. Your written vocabulary is the set of words that you use to write things down. Finally, you have your speaking vocabulary, which is the set of words you use to speak. Generally, a person may comprehend several hundred thousand words, write with ten to twenty thousand, and speak with one to ten thousand words.

For your comprehension vocabulary: completely read serious novels every day or two, with a dictionary next to you to help you understand the meaning of words you don't know.

For your writing vocabulary, write papers, and have friends and family critique your work.

For your speaking vocabulary, create a vocabulary list from a word of the day list on a dictionary website, use flashcards to quiz yourself, and try to integrate those words into your everyday speech.
