What is the best way to keep cats also oppossums from an outdoor area?

I know if you put ammonia down it keeps cats away but I'm not sure if possums will react to the ammonia or not. If you go to the hardware store in the seasonal section they have an area that has stuff to put down for all types of animals deer, raccoons, rats, possums, beavers, cats, and other animals
