  1. If you are online a lot I would recommend trying the yahoo!messenger call facility. If your friends and family are logged in at the same time as you you will be able to see and call them through this.

I spent a year in Italy and Spain and would agree that although you can cheaply get a mobile phone with sim cards for the different countries, you are best to use the discount call cards if you want to have a good chat regularly. There are some excellent deals so compare prices first.

Have a great time out there!

  2. buy one of the many discount telephone cards.... never use hotel phones.. very expensive!!!

  3. I am studying and Europe, and I found the best and cheapest way to talk to the US is through a program on the computer called Skype. Just go to skype.com and download the program, and if both people in the US and Europe have the program, you just have to use a headset (or some type of microphone and head phones) and you can talk for free. The connection is great too. Also, if only one party downloads Skype it is only $.02 a minute to talk to the US. I call home anytime I want and talk for 45 minutes and it only costs about a dollar. It is a little more expensive to call cell phones, but still incredibly cheap.
