  1. Find a penpal in Japan (its not very hard to do over the net) and practice everyday. No matter what computer program you may try or recording you may listen to, the best way will always be learning from a native speaker. I suggest you take classes, sometimes local universities or community colleges host them.

  2. Start using Japanese through your daily life. Share the words you know with your family. You will learn and remember easier if it comes fun to learn.

    -Print up some Japanese phrases

-Give some of your friends Japanese names (EXAMPLE: If I nicknamed my brother Carrot in Japanese, then if I wanted a carrot in Japan, I would think of my brother)

-Remember, there are many steps in being polite when speaking (EXAMPLE: greet kindly, give honorifics)

-Some printable sheets for learning Japanese

-Here is just one list of common Japanese phrases.

       Good luck!

  3. If you have a good pocket of money, I'd defiantly recommend Rosetta Stone!

But if you'd rather just use the internet (works for me!) here's some sites that will help:

    http://www.japanese-online.com/

And use this for other words you wish to learn:

Also check out YouTube and type in "Learn Japanese" or "How to learn Japanese" etc, some vlogs and videos are very helpful!!

    Best of luck!

  4. depends if you are going for pleasure than just buy a small handbook for phrases and some words to help you get around BUT if you go for business than you should by some cassettes and practice vocabulary and prononciation and perhaps take  class...gambate ( good luck)

  5. Absolutely without a doubt the best way is Rosetta Stone. My wife used it and learned enough Japanese in just a few weeks to make her way around by herself. She is there now and is still using Rosetta Stone and is interacting with the Japanese people. But anyway Rosetta Stone give it a try.

  6. If it's for a trip, just get a book from the library or from the net a set of phrases you will commonly need while you're traveling. If it's to move there and you want to jump start your knowledge, a book will be helpful but try watching some videos on youtube or downloading some Japanese language podcasts. This way you'll get to hear it. It's ok to mispronounce words if you're a traveler (you might do some back and forth if people don't understand) but if you're going to live there for awhile, you might as well do your best to get it right.

  7. Watch japanese drama.
