What is the best way to learn chess?

I'm a beginner at chess i know the basics and i know practice makes perfect, but are there any good books or computer programs to improve my skill?

Yes there are lots of books about how to play chess better.  I would recommend that you buy Chessmaster 9000 or 10000 for your PC.  It has a very good teaching section that will take you from a beginner to an advanced player.  The Chessmaster for the X box is good but it doesn't have all the features that you can get for your PC.  Chessmaster Challenge for the PC is like the version you get for the X Box.
