  1. Find someone you can talk to!  Remember that different countries have different cultures, and their languages reflect that.  Find a good friend/tutor that will speak the language and be able to explain those little intricacies to you.

I had a professor I would bump into out side of class all of the time, and I could never get her to speak Spanish.  That class was the biggest waste (mostly the organization of the class and dependence upon the textbook).  But my high school class, where I used the language (no text most of the time- we took notes and made our own reference materials, the ubiquitous verb card) constantly I was fairly fluent.

The downside was that I learned the cultural aspects from others, and not firsthand, which is so important, they can be subjective to class, region... there are so many different factors.  I cannot understate the value  of this type of learning.  You might be thinking, but I just need to speak the language?, right?  The thing with learning the cultural aspects is that it gives you just one more little tag in your memory to remember things by.  And your speech and writing will show the difference, ie- the way most Americans pronounce the double l 'll' sound, and utilize little things like the personal 'a', I never found a book that could teach me where to put the 'a', I just had to learn.  These things make a huge difference, and will show to your peers.

But, when you stop speaking the language, you will loose it, I did.

  2. I would recommend Rocket Spanish! you can check it out here:

Also with any product, as you learn, find someone else to practice with.  A fluent speaker would be best.

  4. Take a class and find someone who is fluent on the side. The class will help you much with spelling and grammar, but if you want to learn the real stuff... speak with a native speaker. There is much slang to spanish, like there is to English, so to sound the most fluent, it is good to learn to communicate with a fluent speaker. Also, you will get a better idea of the true accent that can not be learned in a classroom, because you are speaking to all non fluent speakers. Find versions of movies that you already know and watch them in spanish such as many disney movies... Hope that helps!

  5. I think that you could have spanish classes abroad, you could improve your spanish easily and get fun, living with a Peruvian family and learn basic Spanish in only 2 weeks, also you can earn money specially if you study in Peru, study Spanish there is cheaper and they have many amazing arqueological ruins like Machupicchu.
