I just started by second year of college. Last year I went to the gym a little bit and starting getting some muscle but this summer I gained a couple pounds and didn't really work out cause I was busy. What is the best way to loose weight while building muscle (to make my abs more visible.. etc.). And other than running because I know thats part of it, but like as far as eating goes also. Are there any good guides out there that explain exercising as well as eating to loose a few pounds. I don't need to loose a lot, just maybe like 5-10 at the most (I also know muscle will make you gain weight but when I say loose I mean like loose 10 pounds in fat).

  1. bodybuilding.com is one of my favorite websites.

It has a searchable database of exercises by body part or equipment. It has thousands of articles on protein, nutrition, all sorts of stuff.

  2. 5-10 lbs isn't very much to loose so if you just start working out 4-5 days a week for at least 30 min each time you shouldn't have any trouble loosing a little weight and toning up your muscles.  The best work out is one you'll stick with.  If you like running, do that.

To define your abs or other muscles you'll need to do some light weight lifting.  Just as much weight as you can lift 12-15 times.  The last couple of times should be hard but you shouldn't strain.  The whole no pain, no gain montra from years ago isn't really true.  Push yourself but don't hurt yourself.

Eating well is always a part of being healthy.  I've used the diabetic diet as a general guideline for years.  I'm not diabetic but the recommended diet is low in fat and simple carbs while pushing fruits, veggies and complex carbs.  It's really just a good sense eating plan.
