My mom when to go get her blood checked (twice), and in the cholesterol she came out super high... the normal cholesterol level should be about 200, and my moms cholesterol is 495. What is the best way to lower it. She cant exercise because if she does they told her she can get a hear attack. Is there any pill that does miracles?

She is not fat, she weighs around 270. Please help me.

  1. There are 4 things your Mom can do:

    Change her diet.

    Exercise

    Lose weight.

    Medication

When my level hit 460 and I weigh 107 lbs. I knew it was time to change my diet.  My doctor gave me a list of what not to eat. When you grocery shop, read the labels and buy only foods that don't contain cholesterol.  Buy 2% milk because whole milk is loaded with cholesterol.  Stay away from cheeses and bacon and anything that is fried.  Try onion juice.  It will lower your level, clean your blood, help with insomnia, and regulate your heart.  If you must have butter, get cholesterol free butter only.  Tastes the same. Another great thing is oatmeal.  Have your Mom eat a bowl every morning.  This is very heart healthy too.  Your Mom does need to exercise as well.  Nothing too strenous, just a 15-20 minute walk every evening. This also will make her heart stronger.

After I changed my diet, I had another test done 6 months later.  My reading was 237.  I did take Vytorin for 3 months.  I'm sure this helped alot too.  But diet is so important.  Please help your Mom as this is not easy.  Take one day at a time and she will notice a difference in the way she feels. Helpl her with her eating habits.  No more fast food. Lots of water and lots of fruits.  Good luck.

  2. There are drugs to lower cholesterol, thats her best bet. BUT, anyone can exercise even people who have had heart attacks, as long as they dont overdo it (no marathons). Also, unless your mom is 8feet tall, 270lb is not a healthy weight for a woman, and loosing some will help her cholesterol.

  3. "She is not fat, she weighs around 270".

"She can[']t exercise because if she does they told her she can get a hear[t] attack"

You're right. Your mom's not fat. She is probably very fat.

Get her to lose weight. Then she can start exercising properly. Then, watch the cholesterol fall.

  4. Your mom needs professional help. She IS fat! And, a cholesterol that high will most likely not be totally correctable even with the proper diet. A statin drug is probably needed to help her get her cholesterol under control. But, it only works if the diet is followed.

She CAN exercise, but needs professional guidance to get her started and educate her about the types of exercise she can manage.

That being said, I'm sure she could at least get started by squeezing a rubber ball. That's exercise.

Remember this. You can't make her change her lifestyle. It's not your responsibility. It's hers.

    Good luck.
