  1. Turn off lights when you are not in the room. Also turn off the TV when you are not watching it.

  2. The single biggest thing you can do to help is to turn up your thermostat a couple degrees in the summer, and down in the winter. We personally keep our house at 78-80 in the summer, and 65-68 in the winter. This'll reduce your energy bill AND be environmentally friendly.

If you can afford a little more, here are a few suggestions:

    - Check for gaps around your doors and windows and patch, caulk or seal them.

    - Add foam panels around your outlets and switches to reduce airflow around them.

    - Add insulation to your attic. Nearly all houses don't have the recommended amount, especially if your home is a few years old.

    - Buy and use a programmable thermostat to turn up/down the temperature in your house when no one is at home or are asleep.

These will have upfront costs, but will save you in the long run.

  3. 1.turn down your ac or heat

    2.if winter wear a sweater

3.if summer leave the house as much as possible. so you dont use as much eletricity or gas.

    4. dont use the oven as much its a energy burner

    5. dont blowdry your hair, towel dry it.

    6. if you boil tea, use a coffie pot instead to cook the tea.

    7. keeps light off as much as possible.

  4. Stop using them or move to a more temperate zone that does not require much use in either the winter or summer. Ride a bike instead of driving. The best way is to move to a log cabin and use dung to warm your self in the winter much like the indians.

    Have a great day.

  5. energy efficient lights and appliances, and you could look into solar and wind power to supplement your home.

  6. 1.turn off elecrical equipments when not in use

2.decrease use of washing machines(high pwr machines)

    3.use LED lights in house

    4.use high star rated equipments

  7. reduce stanby energy usage. Most appliances still draw some electricity when they are plugged in. Anything with a light or clock definately does. I plugged my tv, vcr, game system and stereo into a power strip with a switch, I just flip the switch and it is the same as unplugging them. I unplug all chargers including toothbrush and laptop when not in use. I also unplug anything else that is easy to reach when not in use. I've saved between $50-70 per month.

I also line dry my clothes, turned my thermostat up to 80 in the summer. I use fans instead of a/c.  I open windows to help cool in the mornings and evenings, I close drapes to keep heat in or out. I sweep instead of vacuum. I use daylight when available.

To help your fridge be more energy efficient, keep it full, but not crowded. Keep the door gaskets clean and in good repair, vacuum the coils. Keep the door closed as much as possible. Don't put hot food into the fridge or freezer.
