when the ey is glassing it tell him or her to put an extra shiny gloss, so it looks more shiney

I don't know much about surfboards but when I worked on cars, the way we got the fiberglass to look shiny was to clear coat it using a polyurethane made for cars by PPG.  If you get a good coat, it should resist even salt water and you may not even need the wax I've seen people use.  It will give it a thick coat and won't add much weight to your board.

Look into it, it might be worth a try.

I'm guessing you have an older(already glassed) board, therefore impractical to put on a urethane coat.

the best thing to shine one of these up is to use  polishing compound(like for a car) and just buff it then finish with car polish.
