  1. go to germany. i know someone who did that

  2. German is really complicated.

The syntax is different then in English for instance which makes it difficult to start using the first knowledge; it has cases (4) and the Gender is truly a trouble because there are no rules how the gender is defined, so you simply have to memorize it for each individual word.

To start, take an initial course, go through without getting too worried if you find it tough.. and keep on going though the following stages. There will be a lot of "holes" in your knowledge but keep going. At some stage you´ll start "hearing" what´s correct. I advice you to do that rather then pressing your mind on remembering everything at early stages, you might find it too difficult.

Practice grammar exercises (again don´t press your mind too much) and this will gradually help you master tenses, cases and adopting correct ways to form a sentence.

Later on, when you make a sufficient progress, take your favorite book and read it in German (with the original in English at hand). But this, you should do slowly, putting all your attention to the language.

Three years will probably be needed to master it properly.

Enjoy it. It´s good to speak German, it´s very useful!

  3. livemocha.com works like rosetta stone and it's free! maybe you can pick up a book from borders or something and teach yourself? perhaps there is some place that offers a class near you? move to germany?!!

    good luck!

  4. If you type in BBC Languages to any search, it'll take you to their language website where you can take some little online courses for German. Also there's a great website with a tutorial, www.ielanguages.com , there's no audio on the latter site so make sure you have good pronunciation...

  5. The best way to master any language is to either head to the country at some point for some amount of time OR, get a girlfriend/boyfriend who is native in it.

But, you can still learn a language really well without doing those two. Just practice a lot and watch/listen/read alot of things in German. Before and during that, however, take some classes or find some good online sites (sorry I dunno any for German).

  6. there are softwares at office depot and stuff that teach you fluent german

    Rosetta Stone German

Listen to as much German as you can

Read as much German as you can

    Assimil German
