What is the best way to motivate my 5yr old son to do his schoolworks like coloring and writing?

Why not sit down and help him to do it? It'll help him to learn about cooperation and teamwork, and if you try to make it fun too, you'll have a child who wants to do his homework. You'll also be showing him that you care about what he does, which will spur him on to keep doing his homework, and to work hard wiilst he is at school.

When he does the work, make sure you give him lots of praise for his efforts, and when he hands it in and then comes home and shows you what the teacher wrote on his work, praise him again, and even put the work on a wall or on the fridge door, so that he can see how proud you are of his work.

I agree with many of the comments. Get involved. Maybe you can both write something and color together then share your work afterwards and have some laughs. Setting aside a specific schedule, like right after school or after dinner, and sticking to that time is important. Also, this might be a way to start an allowance program. If he knows that school is his job and he gets rewarded for doing a good job, it might help. The allowance does not have to be money, but can be that or some other reward. Good luck.

Put him on a schedule about it, every day when he gets home it has to be done before play. Congratulate him when he completes it tell him how great it is. Reward him with a snack, sticker, something. A sticker board is great because he cam put it up himself and see it. My 6 yr old has one on his door. Also color and write and such with him even when not in school, practice. There are some great books out there with child activities.
