I need to add a coat rack (with five s***w holes in it) on to the back of a hollow bathroom door. Does anyone know the best way to do this to make it secure enough to hold the weight with the coats on it?

What type of rawl plugs?

What length of screws?

Can it be done?

Thanks for your help!

  1. I always use the hang-over top kind

  2. The 2 sided tape works real well

  3. thru- bolts with washers on back side would be the strongest, but if appearance is very important mollies or toggles w/ bolts just  short of thickness of door (1-11/4") would be my  second choice.

  4. The best way is to apply a wood strip from the solid edges of the door and then s***w the hooks to the strip.  The other way is to get the real short expansion anchors specifically designed for the 1/8-3/16" panel thickness (called hollow core door anchors amazingly enough) that look like a dime with a hole in the middle when mounted.

Like this http://www.dkhardware.com/product-13152-...  but should be available at home centers and hardware stores.

  5. The best thing for a hollow door is a coat hook with an adhesive back. Take off the protective covering, press hard, let sit for a day and then hang the garments.
