What is the best way to move into my new apartment while away on vacation?

I have to move out of my apartment on august 31st and into my new apartment on the first. I think I can move in early on the 30th or 31st. The thing is, I will be in Hawaii on these dates. I have looked at door to door and PODS but neither offer prices on their sites and I doubt they could leave these things because the spot requires resident permit parking. What should I do?

  1. It's very difficult to arrange while you're away.  Unless you have some trusted friends or family members who can help,  I think you need to move out early from your apartment and store your stuffs at a storage then move into the new apartment after you come back from vacation.  Even you hire moving company, you still need to be around to supervise their work and make sure they don't break your furniture. They also expect you to tips them right after the work.

  2. mike,   that is when GOOD friends pay off.   you would owe them the rest of your life.  or just don't go to Hawaii.

  3. Pay the old landlord a big chunk of money to allow you to move when you return.  Otherwise you are going to have to hire Allied Van Lines to store all your stuff at their facility and hold it until you return.

If you are really brave you could hire some local college students to do it.  Go to any fraternity or sorority house on campus and hire them.  Pay them 1/4 up front and the balance when you return.  Put it in writing so they know you won't scam them.
