Question:

What is the best way to move with cats?

I have 2 cats, a one year old and a kitten. What is the best way to move into a new apartment (about a 10 minute drive) without letting them run out the door while we bring in the couch? I'd also prefer not to scar them for life if possible. Also I only have one cat carrier.

Advice?

  1. Have one room in the new place where you can put things the cats will find comfort from - clothes with your smell, cat bed etc. and put the cats in there with the door shut while you move everything else.

Can you borrow another carrier?  Or get a cardboard one from the vet?

  2. Put them in the carrier together or one room for the entire process.  To be safe, don't let the kitties out for at least three months.  I am against outdoor cats, and I would NEVER let my cats out, but it's up to you.

For the drive, please put them in the carrier, or maybe you can buy another carrier  Petco has cheap cardboard ones for five dollars- wouldn't recommend them but for short trips like this- that's okay.

Good luck and have a great move!!!

  3. buy another carrier and leve them in it while you move in,it wont hurt them.
