I want to paint it shiny black but i don't know how to do it without covering up the Nintendo logo and the start and reset button text.

  1. Air brush. Model paint.

I'd take the system apart, remove the buttons, and not even worry about painting them (let the buttons stay gray, it'll add some contrast).

As for the painting over the logo, I would either go ahead and paint over it, then try to find an official Nintendo sticker (I'm sure they're floating around on eBay) or I would try masking tape, trimmed with an Exact-o knife.

If I remember correctly, the logo is the word "Nintendo" inside an oval. I wouldn't try masking off each letter. I would just try masking off the oval.

But look for Nintendo stickers on eBay.
