I found a mulberry tree on a vacant lot near my house and picked a few berries. However, I have purple stains on my hand from picking them. What is a better way to pick the berries?

  1. what chad c said i works

  2. I always used small cutting shears or scissors.  Sometimes you can pull them off by the stems, but if the berry is really ripe, the stem pulls off too.  You can get some latex gloves at just about any pharmacy......they would protect your hands without blocking your view of what you are doing like regular garden gloves because they are less bulky.  ;)

  3. do you have an old, clean blanket that you don't really care about? if so, spread it under the branches of the tree and shake them. they will fall on the blanket and you can fill a bucket or something with the blanket. otherwise, i would suggest some latex or rubber gloves.

  4. Use rubber gloves..

  5. Wear gloves.  I happen to like  disposable vinyl gloves

for all my outdoor work, as well as housework.  Just be gentle when you pick them, and use a shallow container so they don't get too deep and crush each other.

    Good Luck!

  6. Wear a thin pair of gloves.

  7. Mulberries are very sensitive to touch and stain easily.  That is perhaps why they aren't very marketable.  They are tasty though and a favorite of birds.

If you want to pick them use thin rubber or vinyl gloves.  It's the only way to prevent the staining.  These berries are very messy!!!
