I read about something a couple weeks ago. say "hold on" and put the phone down instead of hanging up. Then your holding them up.

When a machine calls hit the # button as fast you can, and the system will kick your number out.

BEST THING EVER:  Answer the phone in a real quite voice so they have to turn up their earpiece volume, then take a whistle (airhorn would also work...) and BLOW IT AS LOUD AS YOU CAN.  I hate telemarketers....

Of course, if it actually goes somewhere..ABORT.

I love it when the first question is "Are you the home owner?"

I say - hang on, I'll just get him..... Then just leave it off the hook for 2 minutes - pick it back up, and asy - "he's on his way"

Can usually string it out for 8- 10 minutes.

As an alternative - try to sell THEM something.

How about answer with " James Russel - MI5.........Who are you?........How did you get this number ?......... I'm only going to say this once - delete any record you have of this number for security purposes "

At least they shouldn't phone back.

Or....Really quietly answer hello, When they start, explain you are not the home owner, but had just broken in, and was about to blow the safe when they phoned, so would it be ok if they phoned back in a few hours instead, as you're a bit busy, and the owners a bit tied up at the moment.

i look at the caller ID and will answer in a different language - german - spanish -japanese sometimes they do speak a different language then i have a fun time with them , or ill answer and if its a woman ill pretend she is a s*x line girl and get all hot and reply she is getting me horney and what is she wearing? if its a man ill do the same , if they speak terrable engrish ill ask for the supervisor and ask him if he can afford proper english speaking personell! yes i can be mean but after the 3rd or so call im just pissy about it . thats my fun..

Sad...I used to work for a telemarketing and survey company.  People are really mean.  Maybe I should go to YOUR job and tell you how worthless YOU are.  It's just a way to make money.

I hated that job anyway, so I didn't really care that people hung up on me or stuff like that cuz then I wouldn't have to talk to anyone.  I got paid to work through sudoku and crossword puzzles basically.  A lot of those companies hire kids right out of highschool, kids who don't give a c**p whether they make a sale or not cuz they are still getting paid.  So if your plan is to hang up or do something stupid, it will save them from having to read their really long and stupid speech that they've already gone though 100 times that day.  Then we all get to talk and laugh about all the dumb stuff people said to us that day.
